South Dakota's
"Mr. Izaak Walton"

Mr. Bill Pringle
Bill Pringle, a member of Sunshine Chapter 31 years. He was Chapter President during 1943 and 1944 (2 years), during which time membership increased from 170 members in 1943 to 447 members in 1944, with most of the new members being signed up by Bill. He held office in the State Division for 10 years and was Division President for 2 years, 1945 and 1946, and during that time membership increased from 1700 with no funds in the treasury in 1945, to 3700.

Bill Pringle was responsible for forming more than 30 new chapters in South Dakota and the surrounding states. This is undoubtedly a record nationally.

Bill was elected a National Director in 1945 and served on that Board 6 years before resigning. He served on the National Executive Board from 1946 to late 1959, during which time he served as vice chairman for two years and Chairman for two years. He then was elected President for 2 years, following which time he served one year ex officio.

During the time he was chairman of the Board and President, he managed to bring the National Organization from some $55,000 in the red, to operating in the black and within their budget.

During the time he was South Dakota Division President, he had more than 50 delegates and members from South Dakota at the National Convention in Chicago, and really put South Dakota on the map nationally. It was during the time he was President following his terms as Chairman of the Executive Board, that he was able to maneuver the National organization into buying a Home of their own, which was done while he was still President. that Home is now paid for and means that the thousands of dollars we were spending for rent are now available for League work. And this is only 8 years later.

During the time he was National President, he visited more Chapter meetings, Division meetings and appeared on more radio, TV and other programs than any President in the history of the League.

He spent most of those two years away from home doing League work. He served as LEGISLATIVE CHAIRMAN and did the leg work of lobbying for many years with great success.

He promoted and designed the Highway Litter-Bug signs now in use on South Dakota highways. Bill also designed the "DON'T BE A LITTERBUG" bumper stickers at the same time.

The National Organization surely knows that Pierre, South Dakota is on the map because of Bill Pringle's efforts and enthusiasm for the League program.

Clubhouse Construction Superintendent

Mr. Art BrandtART BRANDT joined the Izaak Walton League of America prior to the organization of the Sunshine Chapter and was a CHARTER MEMBER of Sunshine Chapter in 1936.

He has always been a diligent and very much interested member, contributing of his time and talent continually.

In 1941 he was elected President of Sunshine Chapter and at that time served one year. He later served several more years as President. He was elected to the National Board of Directors in 1946 and served 6 years.

He was elected to the State Board of Directors, and served on that Board for many years, retiring from that Board about 1 year ago. Art Brandt has put in thousands of hours in the interest of the Izaak Walton League, and especially Sunshine Chapter.

He was Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee for years and, in fact, still is. He landscaped the original grounds and did most of the work of developing that project with his own hard labor, and on his own time.

He was Superintendent in charge of the building of the new Clubhouse now being dedicated, and he drew up the plans for this building and wrote the specifications for same.

He has helped Bill Pringle in Chapter organization work whenever called on, and has worked as a teammate with Bill for years in League work, Chapter, State and National levels.

It is certain that Art Brandt will have much to do with the landscaping of these new grounds and the developing of same.

The contract was let for this building July 7th, 1965, and construction was started August 1st, 1965. The Chapter took possession of this building January 1st, 1966 and during all this construction period, Art Brandt lived on this project.

When it came to the electrical work on the building, he bid against the field of contractors and was low bidder. He bid exceptionally low because he did not want the job to run over with a lot of extras, knowing that he would donate any such extras needed and hold the price of the building down as much as possible.

Every CHAPTER needs several ART BRANDTS, for it is such members that do make a real live chapter and organization. We all owe Art Brant a great deal for all that he has done for us and the community, through his work for the League.
